Tutorial |
|
| -- |
Before we
even begin using MovieSlider, ensure that
- your hardware
and software requirements, especially QuickTime 6 Pro, are met
- you already
have a QuickTime movie (preferable approx 320x240 pixels)
- you already
have a folder of JPEG, GIF or PNG slides numbered Slide01.jpg, Slide02.jpg...etc;
the exception is if you have Microsoft PowerPoint presentation saved
as JPG in a folder. MovieSlider will recognise and automatically re-order
the slides
Note that
there may be issues with QuickTime movies encoded with MPEG4. When in
doubt, use Sorenson or Sorenson 3 instead. |

Step
1 - Prepare
- Launch
MovieSlider
- Open your
QuickTime Movie using the 'Import movie' button
- Note that
if your movie is streamed using QuickTime Streaming Server, you should
open with movie with QuickTime Player, and save as a separate reference
movie. Your should only import your reference movie into MovieSlider
- Choose
the folder with slides using the 'Import slides' button
- Try to
arrange your movie and MovieSlider as below:
Step
2 - Practise
- Try using
the movie control buttons on MovieSlider to navigate around the movie
- Try using
the slide control buttons to control your slides and get a feel of how
things work
- When ready
to start linking, click the Rewind Movie (|<<) button and Previous
your slides until the first slide is in the largest slide view window.
Step
3 - Sync Movie and Slides
- Click the
Play/Pause (>/||) button to start playing the movie
- As and
when you wish to sync a slide, click the Link button
followed by the Next or Previous slide
buttons
- The QuickLink
button will make things easier by syncing current slide and immediately
advancing the slide for you to see the next one.
Step
4 - Proceed to output
- Click on
the 'Proceed to output' button

- You should
change the Title and Banner text now to what your presentation is about.
- You can
also change the Banner text banner colors if you wish. Remember that
if the Banner text and background colors are too close together, your
students will have trouble seeing the text.
- There are
also two checkboxes: Check the "View..." check box if you
want MovieSlider to automatically open the created presentation in your
favourite browser, and check the "Retain..." check box if
you want MovieSlider to retain the HREFTrack created for QuickTime Player.
This is only for people comfortable with Quicktime Pro, and who wish
to further edit the file.
Step
5 - The Most Difficult One Of All
- Click on
the "Create Web Presentation" to, well, create your web presentation.
- Sit back
and watch QuickTime Player and AppleScript do its work.

Tips
and Tricks:
- If you
go through the Menu Bar, you will realise that there are keyboard shortcuts
you can use to sync your movie faster.
- You can
save your links halfway through by going to File -> Save as...; this
creates a text file which you can Open again in future to continue syncing
your slides and movies. IMPORTANT CAVEAT: This savefile
will not work again if you move/modify the movie or slide folder in
any way.
- The completed
web presentation is named in 'yymmdd_hhmm_ss' format. You can change
this to anything you wish, but if you are planning to put them in a
webserver or on a CD, try not to have punctuation or spaces in the folder
name, as this will cause issues with some webservers. Some operating
systems (eg. some Windows) also do not like file/folder names with more
than 8 characters...
